A Passing Rainbow

A Passing Rainbow

Rainbows are truly an amazing and wonderful sight. In fact, few things capture our attention like a rainbow. To small children, rainbows are a marvel and a wonder. Nowhere else in nature do we see the same combination of color and light. Ethereal. Most surprising

Happy Letters are the cure for Social Distancing

Happy Letters are the cure for Social Distancing

Thanks to the novel coronavirus, we are all learning first-hand the meaning and challenges of “social distancing” and “shelter in place”. Living within these constraints requires a big adjusting to our lives, which will undoubtedly create stress and anxiety for many people. Despite the disruption,

A Rare Gift

A Rare Gift

HappyLetter.org celebrated its first birthday this past month. We had planned to quietly celebrate this milestone without much fanfare. We have had mixed feelings about our first year. Although we are very excited to celebrate a year of happy letters, there is still so much more that we had hoped to accomplish. As we struggled to master our patience, we were blessed with a rare and special gift that has given us cause to celebrate. The gift of happiness!

This gift of happiness comes to us from Chrystal F., a special friend to us here at HappyLetter.org. Chrystal’s gift comes to us in the form of a colorful collection of drawings that she has been working on for several years now.

The brightly-colored drawings all share a similar style, of rainbow color and geometric forms and patterns hand-drawn on a half sheet of paper. When you first see one of Chrystal’s drawings, you can see the brightness and joy of her work. When you view the collection of drawings as a whole, you also see the brightness, happiness, and joy in Chrystal herself! What a rare gift to share and to receive!

Chrystal’s drawings are famous here at HappyLetter.org. As a friend, we have known about Chrystal’s drawings for some time. When we first saw Chrystal’s drawings we were struck by their unique and happy style. In fact, our first encounter with her drawings served as the original inspiration for our Happy Letter inspirations page.

After seeing the drawings, we recognized the potential for drawings to inspire happiness in others! How could you not feel a little bit happier looking at these colorful creations?) So we started including inserts and drawings in our happy letters and encouraging others to do the same. We never thought that we would actually get to share the wonderful creations that first inspired us!

These drawings were created with no intention of being shared. They were drawn by Chrystal because it brought her joy and happiness! By sharing her creations, Chrystal has demonstrated the hope and intent of Happy Letter. She has shown the power that we all have to share our happiness with others through small acts of kindness and generosity.

We all have the capacity to share happiness and joy with others. It doesn’t take much to spark some happiness in others! Small acts like sharing a smile, offering some words of encouragement, or sending a happy letter can change the course of someone’s day! All it takes is some courage and love to spark joy in others. Chrystal clearly has both, and she has certainly sparked happiness to all of us by sharing her creations!

Thank you, Chrystal, for sharing your wonderful creations! We couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful gift to celebrate Happy Letter’s first birthday!

Check out all of Chrystal’s creations in the gallery below!

Seeds of Happiness

Seeds of Happiness

Spring has sprung. The grass is growing and the flowers are blooming. This is a time of growth and optimism! After a long cold winter, the warm sunshine of spring is a welcomed sight! One of the most recognizable signs of spring are the dandelions.

In the weeks since first creating the Happy Letter site, I have struggled to find time to contribute to the effort. The busyness of our lives and the many responsibilities we commit to seem to soak up every free moment of the day. The reality

A Journey in Happiness

A Journey in Happiness

Happiness is a process!  In developing HappyLetter.org I have had the chance to think a great deal about the subject of happiness.  Fundamental questions like, “What makes a happy letter?” are not simply answered.

At the same time, we know happiness when we experience it, and we know even small gestures of kindness and love can invoke happiness in others. This is the foundation of Happy Letter.

Through, this process of developing HappyLetter.org, I realize that any writer of happy letters is going to wrestle with this great and wonderful mystery.  This is a great gift!  in some ways the writers of happy letters may actually get much more out of each letter than the recipient.

So as I continue working on HappyLetter.org, I will continue exploring the topic of happiness. I don’t have all the answers, and I don’t expect I ever will.  Yet, I recognize the opportunity to learn a little more about myself and the beauty of the human condition.  So thanks for joining in this journey!

I am looking forward to spreading a little happiness one stamp at a time.
