A Passing Rainbow

A Passing Rainbow

Rainbows are truly an amazing and wonderful sight. In fact, few things capture our attention like a rainbow. To small children, rainbows are a marvel and a wonder. Nowhere else in nature do we see the same combination of color and light. Ethereal.

Most surprising is that this marvel and wonder never seems to fade. Even in our old age, the sight of a rainbow somehow transforms us back to childhood to recapture our attention and imagination.

The beauty of rainbows comes not only from their carefully organized colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Instead, these colors are made so much more meaningful by their contrast across a gray and darkened sky. This contrast of color against darkness is made even more special by their brevity. For a brief moment, their colors shine brightly before fading. Rainbows are wonderful, not only because they are ethereal but because they are ephemeral.

Happy Letter has been blessed to share a wonderful “rainbow” with all of you. This “rainbow” has shed color and light across all of our efforts and sparked joy in many. This deep well of color has come from a dear friend to us, Chrystal F. and her many inspirations.

Chrystal has shared many of her color drawings as inspirations for inclusion in our happy letters. These color rainbow-filled drawings have not only filled our hearts with happiness and joy but have sparked many moments of wonder to those lucky enough to have received one of her colorful drawings in the mail.

We have been so grateful for Chrystal and her generosity and courage in sharing her rare gift. Her works have inspired our efforts and sparked many flurries of happy letter writing.

Like all rainbows that shine brightly, we know that the color will ultimately fade. Knowing this makes our time with them so much more meaningful. But doesn’t help with the sadness and sense of loss we feel in their passing.

We recently learned of the passing of Chrystal, after a prolonged and difficult battle with cancer. We have been deeply saddened by the departure of our friend. Over the last year, Chrystal has be continuous source of inspiration and inspirations. Throughout her battle, she continued drawing and sharing her inspirations. Despite the illness and gray skies around her, she never shied away from bright colors and the happiness and joy in her work.

Rainbows like Chrystal are able to shine because of a rich and powerful light. Chrystal’s strength and perseverance came from the light of her faith. A deep well of hope that not only allowed her to shine brightly, but that helped to pierce the gray skies in others all around her.

Here at HappyLetter.org, we have found ourselves surrounded by gray skies. With a global pandemic, economic uncertainty, and social unrest we have plenty of darkness raining down all around us. Learning about the passing of Chrystal, struck us even harder during these dark times. The news felt like a little bit of color had faded forever from the world. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Today we know that Chrystal is without pain and is basking in the light that inspired her work. The colorfulness, happiness, and joy that Chrystal shared are alive and well. They continue to ripple through all of us. So please share some of that joy with someone in your life!

Our love and prayers go out to Chrystal’s family and friends that are saddened by the passing of a rainbow. We pray that the light that Chrystal knew, may spark the same color and joy in all of our lives.

I saw the light, I saw the light
No more darkness, no more night
Now I’m so happy no sorrow in sight
Praise the Lord I saw the light.

Rest in Peace. Chrystal Joy Frazier
